Here is a very simple setup from a daylong shoot of b-roll, mostly Cinema Verte with our Sony FS7 in a historic Plantation Kitchen trying to supplement and recreate natural looking sunlight coming in from the widow. This shoot took place about 1 ½ hour east of Richmond Virginia, or about 1 ½ hours outside of the Hampton Roads, Tidewater area near Norfolk, Newport news, and Hampton Virginia. We were on the job at DP, Producer/Shooter, and used only a couple stands and a few lights since we really just wanted to supplement, but mostly use natural light.

Hey YouTube, this is David Verde, freelance director of photography, camera operator, cinematographer and owner of DV Entertainment based in Staunton Virginia. Welcome to our behind the scenes video series, Cameraman and a Van where I show you short behind the scenes videos of setups from various jobs I work typically only using what I call the ½ Ton ENG/Documentary van package which I use for interviews, documentaries, reality and unscripted TV, and small commercial video projects.
Here is a very simple setup from a daylong shoot of b-roll for a new podcast, it was mostly Cinema Verte, run and gun shooting with a Sony FS7 in the eastern Virginia in Lancaster County Virginia, which is about 1 hour east of Richmond Virginia, or about 1 ½ hours outside of the Hampton Roads, Tidewater area near Norfolk, Newport news, and Hampton Virginia.
It was cloudy all day so the goal here was to just supplement the daylight coming into the windows so it looked like natural sunlight coming into the building.
This was a very simple setup. I took my two 1x1 Dracast daylight panels and mounted them on this single Baby stand. One on the top pin, and the second one right under it using a superclamp and a half-arm. Worked well to help consolidate the two light sources to seem as one given I don’t have a punchier light like a Aupture 120 or 300.
You can see inside, the light is beaming in causing shadows much as if sunlight was pushing in. Then I put a dracast half panel on the other side to add some fill vs having a soft box inside since I was trying to reproduce what windows sometimes do naturally when not defused.
Later in the day I switched things up. Put the half panel at the window set to daylight, then I put the two 1x1 panels inside bouncing off the walls or ceiling with ½ CTO gels to warm things up. And set my camera's whiteblance to around 3200. That way, the window light shifted to blue, and the interior felt night and warm to complement those candles. Super moody.
There you have it!
