hey youtube this is david verde freelance director photography camera operator cinematographer and owner of tv entertainment based in staunton Virginia welcome to our behind the scenes video series cameraman in a van where i show you short behind the scenes videos of setups from various jobs that work typically only using what i call the half ton eng documentary van package which i use for interviews documentaries reality and unscripted tv and small commercial video projects here's a recent setup from some interviews at a college in roanoke virginia it was two days of filming and all the interviews took place at the end of this hallway in basically a big glass box the goal here was to use the light from outside coming in from camera left then have daylight balance key lights from the right side onto the interviewee one thing we had to do is block out the daylight that was coming in from the window on the right there uh the sun was coming in for about half the morning and then it kind of dipped out behind a hill and uh had to flog off some halogen bulbs that were coming in directly above just to remove some shine here you can see my uh my assistant a friend of mine carlton melton who helped me out um here's a view from the back put some ferny blankets up just to kind of buffer some of the sound from behind got our av camera here i was using the fs5 on uh for uh for the a cam and a small mirrorless sony and uh two uh one by daylight balance panels there for a key just shooting those through a scrim you can see where we flagged off those lights in the rear or excuse me on the above and uh use the uh i use a 40x40 floppy and then that's actually just a big bounce that i've hung this black sheet that i carry around that's it and there's uh there's the uh cart that everything fits neatly on except for the cameras there you have it locally we serve charlottesville stanton harrisonburg richmond and roanoke but we're available to travel anywhere in virginia to our neighboring states and beyond if you'd like more information about how to hire me as a dp or about the video and film production services my company offers visit www.dventertainment.com
